5 days tour from Marrakech to Fes through Merzouga and Ouzina deserts

DAY 1: MARRAKECH – AIT BEN HADDOU – OUARZAZATE – DRAA VALLEY – ZAGORA

Our tour from Marrakech to Fes will start at Marrakech, from which we will head to our first destination, the city of Ouarzazate. We will first cross the famous Tizi-N-Tichka mountain pass, which will allow you to enjoy wonderful views over the High Atlas Mountains. We will pay a quick visit to the Kasbah of Ait Ben-Haddou so that you can explore the beauty of the UNESCO World Heritage site. The location is also mostly known for being the shooting set for many international movies such as Gladiator and Laurence of Arabia. We will then finally reach Ouarzazate, the Hollywood of Morocco. This city received this title for being home to the country’s largest and most important filming studios. We will continue driving through the oasis road and Ait Saoun, enjoying their beautiful landscapes and rock formations, more specifically the 1660 meters high mountain pass of Tizi-N-Tinifft. Then we will reach the Draa Valley and explore its impressive palm groves, that make a beautiful road about 200 kilometers long and represent the last bit of vegetation we will see before entering the Sahara zone. This road was previously used as a caravan track by merchants from other African countries, trading their products with Moroccans. We will finally reach our last destination of the day, the town of Zagora. Zagora is considered to door to the Sahara desert, and in it, you will have dinner and spend the night at a local Riad.

DAY 2 : ZAGORA – OLD DAKAR TRACK – OUZINA DESERT “198 KM TRACK”.

 For the next day of our desert exploration, we will start by exploring the impressive palm groves of the Draa River. After which we will begin driving through the old tracks of the Paris-Dakar rally. These tracks will take us on an amazing adventure through the valley of Draa and the nearby plateau of Oumiran. We will meet plenty of Berber villages along the way while crossing the two types of deserts in the Sahara, Hamadas (stone deserts) and Ergs (dune deserts). After lunch, we will finally reach the Ouzina desert, where you will get to watch a breathtaking sunset over the desert dunes. Then we will go have dinner in our accommodation of the night, which the local Riad of Ouzina TGM. Dinner, night stay, and breakfast the next day will be provided. 

DAY 3: OUZINA DESERT – OUZINA VILLAGE – KHAMLIA – ERG CHEBBI DUNES – MERZOUGA

We will start our day with a traditional breakfast, after which we will head to the Ouzina village. You will get to spend some time with the locals and explore their little town. Then we will start driving towards Erg Chebbi at Merzouga, through the rails of the old Paris-Dakar rally. On our way there we will be driving through a desert area, which means we will meet many Berber villages along the way, one of which being Khamlia. You will get to explore the village that´s untouched by civilization, as well as enjoy the traditional Gnawa music that´s indigenous to the people of the area. When we are done with that, we will continue driving through a path once used by nomad locals. This is when we will embark on our camel-trekking experience, in which you will get to ride the back of camels that will take you to the desert camp where we will spend the night. You will get to experience the real desert culture through a traditional dinner, accompanied by live Berber music. Finally, you will sleep in a traditional nomad style tent (fully equipped), as you will get to gaze at the starry desert night sky.

Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Errachidia – Ziz Gorges – Midelt

This next day, we will make sure to wake you up in time to be able to watch the magnificent desert sunrise. After that, we will ride on camels once again, back to Merzouga, where you can shower and have breakfast. We will then head to Rissani city, where we can pay a visit to the spiritual mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif. After that, we will go explore the Souk, which is the biggest market place in the area, where people from all over the region come for their weekly provisions. Continuing our road trip, we will head to the oasis of Aoufous, in the Ziz valley, where you will get to enjoy wonderful landscapes of nature, perfect for pictures. We will then arrive at Errachidia city, where you will get to visit the Dam of Hassan Adaklir. This dam offers a unique view because of the contrast created by its blue water against the mountains. Next, we will make a stop at the river of Ziz in order to enjoy its breathtaking views and Ksours. Our final destination of the day will be the town of Midelt, which we will reach through driving the unique mountain pass of Tizi-N-Talghom (as high as 1907 meters). Once we arrive at Midelt, you will enjoy the beauty of the Jbel Aachi Mountain. We will have dinner and spend the night at a local hotel.

Day 5: Midelt – Azrou – Ifrane – Fez

After having breakfast, we will head to the cedar forest of Azrou, where you will get to see wild macaque monkeys in their natural habitat. Next, we will head to the small city of Ifrane, also known as the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its very unique weather and architecture. Ifrane is in a mountain location, which brings the altitude of the city to around 1713 meters. It is located in the middle of the national park of Ifrane in which the Atlas lions used to live in the past, which makes the representative mascot for Ifrane a stone lion statue in the heart of the city. Finally, we might pay a quick visit to the international university of Al Akhawayn In Ifrane, before heading straight to Fez, driving through Imouzar Kander. Once we arrive at Fez in the late afternoon, we will drop you off at your accommodation, which marks the end of our tour from Marrakech to Fes services.
