Ouarzazate is the only town in Morocco where a UNESCO World Heritage ksar, two of the world's largest film studios and a working kasbah sit within half an hour of each other. This day trip covers all three at a pace that leaves time to look at things.

Ait Ben Haddou is the centrepiece. The fortified earthen village has stood above the Ounila river since at least the seventeenth century, and has since stood in for Jerusalem, Rome, Thebes and Yunkai. Climbing to the granary at the top takes about twenty minutes and the view over the valley is the reason to do it.
