This private 4-day desert tour from Marrakech to Fes crosses Morocco from south to north with two nights in the Sahara — not just a quick dash to the dunes. Day one climbs the High Atlas to UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou and on to the Dades Valley via Skoura and the Rose Valley. Day two visits the Todra Gorge before you continue south to Merzouga for a sunset camel trek and a night in the dunes.
You’ll spend a full third day exploring the desert — nomad families, deserted settlements and fossil country — before travelling on to Fes through Ifrane, the Ziz Valley, Midelt and the cedar forest. It’s fully private, and you can upgrade hotels and desert camp from standard to mid-range or luxury.
Your 4-day tour from Marrakech to Fes begins with an 8:00 am pickup, then heads south over the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass — Morocco’s highest road — with a coffee or tea break at a viewpoint over the peaks.
You’ll reach the spectacular kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven and Game of Thrones were filmed, then continue to Ouarzazate, “the Hollywood of Africa,” and its film studios. Before an overnight in the Dades Valley, you’ll pass through Skoura and the Mgouna Rose Valley.
This morning you’ll leave the Dades Valley for the Todra Gorge, one of Morocco’s most beautiful canyons, with a walk through the Todra oasis and its towering cliffs before continuing south to Erfoud, famous for its fossils.
Crossing the Saharan oasis, you’ll reach Merzouga with time to rest before mounting your camel for the ride into the dunes. After an hour’s camel trek you’ll reach camp, welcomed with tea as the sun sets over the sand. Dinner is served in the camp’s restaurant tent, with Berber drums around the fire and a starry sky overhead. Overnight in the desert.
After an early sunrise and breakfast, you have the whole day for a 4×4 excursion through the desert around Merzouga — stunning scenery, oases and abandoned villages. First stop is the seasonal lake, where flamingos and other birds gather against a backdrop of dunes.
Next is Khamlia, whose people originally came from Mali and Sudan, where you’ll take in the rhythms of Gnawa music. Stop for an optional lunch of Berber pizza or mint tea in a tent, then continue off-road along the Dakar Rally route, pausing at a desert oasis before returning to your Merzouga hotel. In the evening, stroll to the village or nearby dunes for a serene sunset.
After breakfast you’ll set off for Fes. Passing through Errachidia, the desert’s main administrative centre, you’ll stop for the sweeping view over the Ziz Valley and its palm trees, then continue to Midelt, the city of apples, for lunch.
Next is the Azrou cedar forest, home to wild monkeys — a chance to photograph the woodland and feed the (sometimes shy) macaques. Continuing toward Fes you’ll pass Ifrane, “Moroccan Switzerland,” arriving around 6–7 pm depending on stops — the end of your 4-day tour from Marrakech to Fes.

A private 4-day tour from Marrakech to Fes via the desert gives you two Sahara nights, a full nomad day and the great gorges — a proper crossing of Morocco rather than a rushed loop. You’ll travel through the High Atlas, stop in Ait Ben Haddou, camp under the stars at Erg Chebbi and finish in imperial Fes.
It’s ideal if you’re flying into one city and out of the other, entirely private, and easy to upgrade or extend. Just tell us your dates and preferences.
Yes — every tour is 100% private by default. It’s just your group, your driver-guide and your own vehicle, so you experience Morocco entirely at your own pace. Stop whenever you like for photos, a mint tea or a closer look at a village or viewpoint.
Prefer to share costs? We also run small-group departures on popular routes — just contact us and we’ll match you to the right option.
Absolutely. This is your trip — we can adjust the pace, swap or upgrade accommodation, add nights, and build in extra stops or activities. For the smoothest planning, let us know any changes at least two weeks before departure, though we’ll always do our best with last-minute requests too.
The per-person price goes down as your group grows, because the private vehicle and driver-guide are shared across more travellers. Send us your exact numbers and dates and we’ll send back a clear, all-in quote per person.
Usually not — if anything the opposite. We hand-pick the best riads and desert camps, and the good ones fill up fast, especially in high season (spring and autumn). Booking early secures the best accommodation and a smoother trip.
That said, we do take last-minute bookings when availability allows — message us with your dates and we’ll tell you honestly what’s possible.
Yes. Morocco is one of the most welcoming and stable countries in the region, and tourism is central to its economy, so visitor safety is taken seriously — including dedicated tourist police and government-accredited guides.
On a private tour you’re looked after door to door by a driver-guide who knows the routes and the local etiquette. Serious crime is rare and comparable to many European destinations; normal travel common sense is all that’s needed. Morocco is a great choice for couples, families and solo travellers alike.
Once we’ve agreed an itinerary that works for you, a small deposit secures your dates with Let’s Visit Morocco (every tour on the site can be tailored to your needs). You simply pay the remaining balance at the start of your tour in Morocco — no large upfront payment required.
