    Marrakech to Fes desert itinerary:

    Fes Desert Tour 5-day

Day 1: Marrakech → High Atlas → Ait Ben Haddou → Ouarzazate

Your 5-day Marrakech to Fes desert tour begins with a pickup from your Marrakech hotel. Crossing the High Atlas via the Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260 m), you’ll stop to see the Kasbah of the Glaoui pasha and have lunch in a local restaurant.

In the afternoon you’ll reach Ait Ben Haddou along the Ounila valley and its Berber villages. After exploring the famous fortified kasbah, you’ll continue to Ouarzazate for dinner and a comfortable night in a hotel.

Day 2: Ouarzazate → Skoura → Valley of Roses → Dades → Todra Gorge

After breakfast you’ll drive to Skoura to see the beautiful Kasbah of Amredil on the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, then continue through the magnificent Valley of Roses, with an off-road stretch where you might meet a cave-dwelling nomad family.

You’ll stop for lunch in Boumalne du Dades after admiring the Dades gorges and their striking rock formations, then continue through Tinghir to the Todra Gorge and its towering canyon walls. Dinner and overnight in a kasbah hotel.

Day 3: Todra Gorge → Erfoud → Erg Chebbi (Merzouga)

You’ll take a short walk through the palm plantations and enjoy the wide views of the Todra river before lunch in Tinjdad, then travel through Berber villages such as Touroug and El-Jorf to Erfoud, where you’ll visit a workshop that turns local fossils into crafts.

From there you’ll reach Erg Chebbi, the great Merzouga dunes, and set out on a 90-minute camel trek to your camp for dinner and a night in a traditional nomad tent.

Day 4: Erg Chebbi → nomad family → fossil site → dunes tour

Wake early to watch the sunrise from the top of a dune, then ride your camel back to the hotel for a relaxing shower. A 4×4 desert tour takes you to the black volcanic rocks where fossils are found, the Gnawa spiritual music of Khamlia village, and the seasonal Lake Dayet Srji, which draws pink flamingos in spring.

After lunch in Merzouga or Hassi Labied, you’ll explore the canal irrigation system and stroll around the oasis. Dinner and an overnight stay in a desert auberge.

    Day 5: Merzouga → Erfoud → Midelt → Azrou → Ifrane → Fes

After breakfast you’ll visit the Rissani market, then drive to Errachidia via Erfoud and Aoufous, stopping for the spectacular view over the Tafilalet oasis before continuing to Midelt over the Tizi n’Talghemt.

After lunch you’ll travel through the Middle Atlas to the medieval city of Fes, passing a cedar forest near Azrou and, time permitting, Ifrane — the “Switzerland of Morocco.” Arrival in Fes, where your 5-day desert tour from Marrakech comes to an end.

    FAQ

    5-day Desert Tour

    Are these tours private?

Yes — every tour is 100% private by default. It’s just your group, your driver-guide and your own vehicle, so you experience Morocco entirely at your own pace. Stop whenever you like for photos, a mint tea or a closer look at a village or viewpoint.

Prefer to share costs? We also run small-group departures on popular routes — just contact us and we’ll match you to the right option.

Can the itinerary be customised or changed?

Absolutely. This is your trip — we can adjust the pace, swap or upgrade accommodation, add nights, and build in extra stops or activities. For the smoothest planning, let us know any changes at least two weeks before departure, though we’ll always do our best with last-minute requests too.

Does the price change with group size?

The per-person price goes down as your group grows, because the private vehicle and driver-guide are shared across more travellers. Send us your exact numbers and dates and we’ll send back a clear, all-in quote per person.

    Are last-minute bookings cheaper?

Usually not — if anything the opposite. We hand-pick the best riads and desert camps, and the good ones fill up fast, especially in high season (spring and autumn). Booking early secures the best accommodation and a smoother trip.

That said, we do take last-minute bookings when availability allows — message us with your dates and we’ll tell you honestly what’s possible.

    Is Morocco safe for tourists?

Yes. Morocco is one of the most welcoming and stable countries in the region, and tourism is central to its economy, so visitor safety is taken seriously — including dedicated tourist police and government-accredited guides.

On a private tour you’re looked after door to door by a driver-guide who knows the routes and the local etiquette. Serious crime is rare and comparable to many European destinations; normal travel common sense is all that’s needed. Morocco is a great choice for couples, families and solo travellers alike.

    Booking, deposit and payment

Once we’ve agreed an itinerary that works for you, a small deposit secures your dates with Let’s Visit Morocco (every tour on the site can be tailored to your needs). You simply pay the remaining balance at the start of your tour in Morocco — no large upfront payment required.
