A 3-day dash from Marrakech to the Erg Chebbi dunes means a long 10-hour drive back on the final day. This private 4-day Marrakech desert tour to Merzouga spreads the journey out — so you can slow down, explore the sights along the way, and actually enjoy the desert rather than just reach it.
As well as a sunset camel trek and a night in a Sahara camp, the extra day gives you time at the foot of the dunes: tea at your hotel, nomads living in caves, a guided walk through a palm grove, or a hike in the Dades Valley and Todra Gorge. Fully private, at your own pace.
After a pickup from your accommodation, you’ll begin with a breathtaking drive over the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260 m), reaching the stunning mountainside villages.
Next stops are the Kasbah of Taourirt and the famous film studios of Ouarzazate. After lunch you’ll travel through the Dades Valley along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, from the fascinating town of Skoura to Kelaat M’Gouna in the Rose Valley. Dinner and overnight in Boumalne Dades.
An early start takes you through varied scenery toward the Merzouga sand dunes. Driving through the palm groves of the Tinghir oasis, you’ll reach the Todra Gorge, where limestone cliffs rise up to 320 metres above the riverbed — explore the gorge and palm orchards at your own pace, then continue past the palm groves of Tinjdad and Erfoud.
Arriving at Merzouga, you’ll ride a camel over the rolling Erg Chebbi dunes, pausing for a sunset that turns the sand to gold. After a wonderful dinner and Berber drumming, spend a magical night under the stars in a desert camp — the highlight of the trip.
Rise early for a beautiful desert dawn, then — after breakfast at camp — return to the trailhead and travel to Rissani, birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty, and the Tafilalet palm grove.
From there you’ll head toward Alnif and cross the Anti-Atlas, continuing to the Berber towns of Tazzarine and N’kob, then along the Draa Valley with its long ranks of palm trees and striking grey-black mountains. You’ll reach Ouarzazate in the late afternoon via the Tizi n’Tniffift pass, with an overnight in a riad or kasbah.
Leaving Ouarzazate in the morning, you’ll visit Ait Ben Haddou, Morocco’s most spectacular and best-preserved kasbah and a UNESCO World Heritage Site — backdrop to The Mummy, Gladiator, Alexander and Babel.
From there you’ll head back toward the Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi n’Tichka — Morocco’s highest road pass at 2,260 m — with breathtaking views over Berber villages and the High Atlas. You’ll arrive in Marrakech in the evening, the end of your 4-day Marrakech desert tour.

A 3-day trip from Marrakech to the Erg Chebbi dunes means a punishing 10-hour drive home on the last day. This 4-day Marrakech desert tour to Merzouga fixes that — spreading the miles out so you have time for the stunning sights along the way.
The extended itinerary still includes the unforgettable camel trek and a night in a deep-desert camp, but adds a more relaxed, immersive adventure. With so much to see and do, it’s the ideal choice for travellers who want both adventure and discovery — all private and paced around you.
Yes — every tour is 100% private by default. It’s just your group, your driver-guide and your own vehicle, so you experience Morocco entirely at your own pace. Stop whenever you like for photos, a mint tea or a closer look at a village or viewpoint.
Prefer to share costs? We also run small-group departures on popular routes — just contact us and we’ll match you to the right option.
Absolutely. This is your trip — we can adjust the pace, swap or upgrade accommodation, add nights, and build in extra stops or activities. For the smoothest planning, let us know any changes at least two weeks before departure, though we’ll always do our best with last-minute requests too.
The per-person price goes down as your group grows, because the private vehicle and driver-guide are shared across more travellers. Send us your exact numbers and dates and we’ll send back a clear, all-in quote per person.
Usually not — if anything the opposite. We hand-pick the best riads and desert camps, and the good ones fill up fast, especially in high season (spring and autumn). Booking early secures the best accommodation and a smoother trip.
That said, we do take last-minute bookings when availability allows — message us with your dates and we’ll tell you honestly what’s possible.
Yes. Morocco is one of the most welcoming and stable countries in the region, and tourism is central to its economy, so visitor safety is taken seriously — including dedicated tourist police and government-accredited guides.
On a private tour you’re looked after door to door by a driver-guide who knows the routes and the local etiquette. Serious crime is rare and comparable to many European destinations; normal travel common sense is all that’s needed. Morocco is a great choice for couples, families and solo travellers alike.
Once we’ve agreed an itinerary that works for you, a small deposit secures your dates with Let’s Visit Morocco (every tour on the site can be tailored to your needs). You simply pay the remaining balance at the start of your tour in Morocco — no large upfront payment required.
