10 Days in Morocco: 2027 Itineraries North to South

Ten days is the length where you stop choosing. A week makes you pick between the north, the coast and the Sahara; ten days lets you take the country in one direction, top to bottom, without driving any road twice and without the trip feeling like a list being worked through.

It is also long enough to point the whole thing at a single interest — light, birds, history — rather than covering ground. Here is what ten days does in 2027.

What the extra three days actually change

The difference between seven days and ten is not thirty percent more sightseeing. It is a different kind of trip.

At seven days you are moving most mornings. At ten you get three or four nights where you stay put — two in Fes, two in the desert region, two in Marrakech — and the trip develops a rhythm instead of a schedule. That is where the Chefchaouen mornings and the long Dades afternoons live.

It also means a late flight or a closed pass costs you an afternoon rather than a destination.

Route 1: Tangier to Marrakech, north to south

The fullest version of Morocco in a single direction. You land in the north, work down through the Rif, the imperial cities, the Sahara and the Atlas, and fly out of Marrakech.

Tangier and the Caves of Hercules, then Chefchaouen for a night in the blue city, Volubilis and Meknes, two nights in Fes, the cedar forests and Middle Atlas down to Merzouga for the dunes, the Todra and Dades gorges, Ait Ben Haddou, and two nights in Marrakech at the end.

Nothing repeated, every region covered, and the one piece shorter itineraries always lose — Chefchaouen — comfortably included.

Route 2: Casablanca in and out, the full circuit

If your long-haul flight lands at Mohammed V and returns from it, ten days makes a genuine circuit rather than an out-and-back.

Casablanca and Rabat, Meknes and Volubilis, Fes, the desert at Merzouga, the southern valleys, Ait Ben Haddou, Marrakech, and back to Casablanca along the coast. The coastal return is the part that makes this work: you come home a different way, through Essaouira or El Jadida, instead of retracing the motorway.

Route 3: Fes first, imperial cities and the Sahara

For people flying into Fes, or into Casablanca with a transfer straight to Fes to skip the coast.

This is the imperial-cities version: Fes, Meknes, Volubilis and Rabat get real time rather than a morning each, and the Sahara leg still gets two nights. It suits anyone whose interest leans historical rather than landscape.

Route 4: ten days with a subject

This is where the length pays off most. Ten days is enough to build a trip around one thing and follow it properly.

Photography. The light in Morocco changes character every few hundred kilometres — the blue of Chefchaouen, the ochre of Ait Ben Haddou, the tanneries of Fes, Erg Chebbi at both ends of the day. Our 10-day photography tour is timed around golden hours rather than opening hours, which is a different itinerary entirely.

Birds. Morocco crosses four major habitats in a day’s drive and sits on the Europe to West Africa flyway. The 10-day birdwatching tour runs from the Atlantic wetlands through the Atlas to the desert edge.

Jewish heritage. The mellahs of Fes and Marrakech, the cemeteries, the synagogues of Essaouira and the Atlas villages: our 9-day Jewish heritage tour runs Casablanca to Marrakech and extends to ten easily.

Nine days, eleven days

Nine is ten with one city night fewer and works for all the routes above. Eleven or twelve is where the Atlantic coast joins properly — Essaouira for two nights rather than a stop — or where you add a trek in the Atlas.

If you are weighing up going longer, read two weeks in Morocco.

Timing ten days in 2027

A ten-day trip crosses several climates at once, which is an advantage: if the desert is too hot or the mountains too cold, the itinerary can shift its weight.

April, May, September, October remain the strongest months. On a ten-day route you also get the shoulder benefit — late March or early November work well because there is slack in the schedule.

Summer is viable at this length in a way it is not at three days, because we can put the coast at one end and the desert nights in a camp rather than a town.

Winter gives you snow on the Atlas above palm groves, which is one of the better sights in the country, and empty medinas. Pack for near-freezing desert nights.

Easter Sunday is 28 March 2027; Ramadan falls around early February to early March 2027, with dates confirmed locally by the moon. Neither prevents travel, but both change how busy the roads and riads are.

Booking ten days

Long itineraries are where private travel earns its keep. Over ten days a fixed group route will have you waiting for other people several times a day; a private one bends around how you actually travel — whether you are early risers, whether you want three hours in a museum or twenty minutes, whether the second desert night becomes a third.

Flights matter more at this length too. Open-jaw, in through Tangier or Casablanca and out through Marrakech, is what makes the north-to-south routes possible. Check that before fixing anything else.

Tell us your dates, your arrival and departure airports and what you want the trip to be about, and we will write the ten days around it.

Common questions

Is 10 days enough for Morocco?

It is the sweet spot for a first visit. Ten days crosses the country in one direction — north to south or coast to desert — covering the imperial cities, the Sahara and the Atlas without repeating a road.

What is the best 10-day Morocco itinerary?

Tangier to Marrakech: the Rif and Chefchaouen, Volubilis and Meknes, two nights in Fes, the Middle Atlas to Merzouga, the gorges and Ait Ben Haddou, then two nights in Marrakech.

Can you include Chefchaouen in 10 days?

Yes, comfortably, and ten days is the first length where it stops costing you something else. Shorter itineraries have to choose between the blue city and a second desert night.

Is 10 days too long for Morocco?

No. The usual regret is the opposite. Ten days is where people stop packing every morning and start having the unplanned afternoons that end up being the best part of the trip.

Can a 10-day tour be built around one interest?

That is what the length is good for. Photography timed to golden hours, birding across four habitats, Jewish heritage through the mellahs and the Atlas villages — all of these work as ten-day itineraries in a way they do not in a week.

Should I fly into one city and out of another?

For ten days, yes. The strongest routes run north to south, so flying into Tangier or Casablanca and out of Marrakech removes a full day of backtracking.
