Day 1: Fes – Merzouga

Our 6 days from Fez to desert Merzouga trip will begin towards the desert from Fez to Marrakech by meeting up with your driver either at the airport or at your accommodation. Then we will start driving south, past the beautiful town of Ifrane, also called the Switzerland of Morocco for its unique weather and architecture. Our first stop along the way will be to observe wild macaque monkeys in their natural habitat, at the cedar forest in Azrou. Another beautiful town we will come across along the way is Midelt. We will then resume our trip to Merzouga, passing through the valley of Ziz and its impressive palm groves, with breathtaking natural landscapes. Then we will reach the town of Aoufous and the city of Erfoud that´s mostly known for its richness in natural fossils. Finally, we will arrive at Merzouga where we will first stop at a hotel in order to check-in and deposit our luggage, and then we will switch from 4×4 vehicles to a camel caravan which we will ride through the fascinating dunes of Erg Chebbi. We will then reach our desert camp just in time to watch the sunset over the dunes, after which you will have dinner and get to spend the night in a traditional nomad tent.   

Day 2: Merzouga Desert – Ouzina Desert tour

After having breakfast at the camp, we will start driving through the desert dunes, following a track known for being the old track of the Paris-Dakar Rally. We will be driving through a desert area, which means we will meet many Berber villages along the way, one of which being Khamlia. You will get to explore the village that´s untouched by civilization, as well as enjoy the traditional Gnawa music that´s indigenous to the people of the area. Then we will meet the village of Taouz, from which we will reenter the track that will lead us to the Ouzina village and Erg Ouzina. Ouzina is a small but beautiful village near the Algerian border, from which we will head to the dunes of Erg Ouzina. We will have dinner and stay at the desert Riad of Ouzina TGM, after which you will get to enjoy a glimpse of the true desert culture, through watching live Berber music.

Day 3; Ouzina – Erg de Ozuina – Town of Ouzina – Nomad Culture

This next day, we will make sure to wake you up in time to be able to watch the magnificent desert sunrise. We will then start our day with a traditional breakfast, after which we will head to the Ouzina village. You will get to spend some time with the locals and explore their little town. For lunch, you will get to enjoy a delicacy of the area: the Berber pizza, after which you may get tribal henna tattoos (temporary) if you wish. After that, we will head to a nearby location known for being rich in fossils, so that you can check out the fossil mines. We will leave the village to go search for a Nomadic family in the middle of the desert so that we can pay them a visit and have a chat over some traditional mint tea. This will allow you to learn more about the true desert and nomad culture. Finally, we will return to the Ouzina TGM Riad to have dinner and spend the night.

Day 4: Ouzina – Berber villages – Ramlia – Tafraoute – Alnif – Tinghirir – Dades River Gorges

This next day we will leave Riad Ouzina TGM to head to the Ramlia village, driving through amazing desert landscapes filled with sights of nomad Berber families, desert dunes, camel caravans and more. We will near arrive in the towns of Tinghir and Alnif after about a 3-hour drive, and this is where you will see some of the most spectacular views in Morocco. After a long piece of land filled with greenery and palm trees, we will reach the Todra gorges, which are a series of river carved canyons that make a beautiful set of rock formations. After exploring the area will continue our trip moving to another set of gorges nearby, the Dades gorges. Finally, we will have dinner and spend the night at a local hotel or Riad.

DAY 5: Dades Gorges – Rosas Valley – Ouarzazate

We will start our day by having breakfast, after which we will take the road in the direction of the city of Ouarzazate. On our way there, we will stop at the beautiful valley of Roses, known for its breathtaking views and the abundance of old Kasbahs in this area. We will continue driving the valley of Dades, which will lead us to the Kasbah of Ait Youl. From there, we will head to Kalaat Mgouna, which the Moroccan capital of the production of roses and all products and cosmetics derived from roses. We will stop at this fascinating location to have lunch, and then we will continue our trip to Ouarzazate, driving by the impressive palm groves of Skoura. Finally, we will arrive at Ouarzazate where we will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 6: Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – High Atlas – Marrakech

Our first activity of the day, after breakfast, of course, will be to explore Ouarzazate. This includes a visit to the Kasbah of Taourirt, located near the Atlas corporation studios. After that, we will drive to the star of the desert: The Kasbah of Ait Ben Heddou. This marvelous Kasbah was the filming location for many huge international movies, such as Gladiator, the Mummy, Cleopatra, Game of thrones… You will get to freely wander around the streets of the Kasbah. Next, we will start driving towards the city of Marrakech through the unique driveways of the High Atlas Mountains, most notably the pass of Tizi-N-Ntichka. We will also meet many Argan oil cooperatives along the way, so we will visit one of them. Finally, we will arrive at Marrakech in the evening where our 6 days from Fes to desert Merzouga and Marrakech.
